The sandwich recipe includes all the components needed to make a sandwich, no more, no less. It can be added to or embellished. Remove any of these elements and you run the risk of disappointment.
1 ciabatta roll or 1/3 or a loaf of ciabatta bread
1T mayo
½ t seasoning salt
1t mustard
1t vinegar (red or white wine)
1 small shallot, sliced
1 pickle, sliced
1 small tomato, sliced
4 slices of deli meat or field roast
1/4c of cheese or 2 slices
A handful of greens or two large lettuce leaves snapped in half
If using a large loaf, slice into 1/3 off vertically and then slice that in half horizontally to make two pieces of sandwich bread. You can hollow out some of the fluff inside if you would like. Spread half of the mayo on the bottom slice and season with seasoning salt. Top with half of the shallots and all of the pickle. Lay on the meat and then slather the meat with the mustard. Top with the cheese, tomatoes and then the rest of the shallots. Drizzle the top of the bread with the vinegar and then spread on the rest of the mayo. Smash the greens onto the pile and then quickly put the lid on. Secure the sandwich with toothpicks, if needed, and then slice.
